About Lara

Lara Oshon (pronounced like ocean) is a contemporary artist based in Montgomery, Alabama. Influenced by her diverse background as a social worker, trauma counselor and musician, Lara paints in a wide range of styles with a focus on personal transformation and social change. Working mainly in acrylics, the colors and composition of each painting hold an intention that generates peace and power in any environment.

Lara paints from her listening and heart more than with her eyes, feeling her way forward as the painting reveals itself in unexpected ways. Her body of work lives in spaces all over the United States and Australia. She believes that the arts lead culture and is committed to creating content that builds a global culture of equity and belonging.

COURAGE & CONNECTION

"I’m interested in pursuing large, complex questions and deconstructing our social, religious and cultural conditioning. I'm often examining how feminine power - of all genders - expresses in a patriarchal culture. The paintings reflect my own introspective practice, filtered through my training in the healing arts, psychology, music and spirituality. My intention is to connect with the place in you that is also questioning, evolving, and remembering your power.

My art is both abstract and figurative, and I work primarily in acrylics on canvas. Many unseen layers of color compose each piece before I reach the harmony I’m seeking. I draw a lot of inspiration from nature, and after living in the California sunshine for many years, I recently returned to the rich, lush colors of the South."
