I was thinking about the color pink and the southwestern desert, and this is the result. I added metallic gold paint to the top line of the mountains for fun. I kept hearing the Nanci Griffith song “Once in a Very Blue Moon” in my head as I painted, so naturally I added a blue moon!

As a musician and piano player, this painting just flowed out of me one day. The geometric shapes represent the discipline and structure of music, and the water represents the uncontainable feeling and flow. Rhythm and blues. I listened to the "Summer of Soul" soundtrack as I painted for inspiration.

A piece for music lovers! I painted this as a musical tribute to Wilson Pickett, who made the song "Mustang Sally" famous. Pickett is originally from a town very close to me called Prattville, about 15 miles from Montgomery, AL, where I live. It is painted on wooden board in a retro 2-dimensional style, with three coats of varnish for added color protection. The back is wired and ready to hang.
